How is my growth in faith and do I seek God with all my heart?
On this Second Sunday of Lent, the first reading from the Book of Genesis (Gen 15:5-12,17-18) shows Abram’s faith and obedience to God, God promises him a great offspring. This great patriarch of faith is a clear example for every Christian that we must trust God in all the circumstances of life in the moments of joy and difficulty, God is always faithful to His promise; when the human being trusts in Him, He will do His work. In Psalm 26 the psalmist emphasizes that God is light, salvation and strength; we must seek God constantly in the midst of what we live every day, sometimes we have felt alone and abandoned by Him and by the people we trust, but God always comes to meet us.
The reading of the letter of the Apostle Paul to the Philippians, tells us that many live as enemies of the cross of Christ, this makes us reflect that as followers of Jesus many times we abandon the cross because we want to live in comfort, for not committing ourselves to live radically the word of God, or other things that take us away from Him. Therefore, the word of God invites us to remain firm and faithful to God.
The Gospel of Luke presents us with a very beautiful and compromising scenario, the transfiguration of Jesus and at the same time questions us if we are true disciples of Jesus, prayerful and willing to walk with Him, as did Peter, James and John who were with Him, despite their tiredness.
Moses and Elijah anticipated a conversation about the death of Jesus in Jerusalem and Peter, wanting the best for Jesus, asks him to build a tent for each one, with the intention that Jesus would live in peace, glorified, but Jesus makes it clear that his mission is not to live in comfort, his glorification must also pass through the cross, so he comes down from Mount Tabor, goes to the street, where there is pain and suffering. Jesus looks for new strategies to make us understand that his evangelizing mission is itinerancy and the preaching of the word.
Finally, we ask ourselves if we feel loved and chosen by him as the Gospel tells us. “This is my son, my chosen one; listen to him”.
