« The Spirit Who Renews and Unites »
Today, the Church celebrates the mighty breath of God that makes all things new. At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descends like a rushing wind and tongues of fire, transforming fearful hearts into bold witnesses. The Apostles, once locked away in fear, begin to speak in different languages—a sign that the Gospel is for all peoples. The Holy Spirit breaks down the barriers of Babel and restores unity in diversity. This is why the psalmist sings of creation renewed by God’s breath, saying: « You take away their breath, they perish… You send forth your Spirit, they are created ». Thus, the Holy Spirit is the life-giving presence of God, capable of resurrecting what seems dead within us.
Saint Paul reminds us that « those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God ». It is this same Spirit who frees us from the slavery of fear and makes us cry out, « Abba, Father! ». He conforms us to Christ and enables us to love as He does.
In the Gospel, Jesus promises: « The Holy Spirit will teach you everything ». It is His Spirit that helps us live the commandments not as a burden, but as a path of freedom and love.
Like the Apostles, we are sent to proclaim in our own “tongues”—through our lives, words, and actions—that Christ is alive. Let us ask the Spirit to renew in us a missionary zeal, heal our divisions, and make us builders of communion.
