The Gospel of Luke 13, 1-9 of this Sunday, March 23, invites us to reflect on these words Lent, mercy, solidarity, terms that are united in the time of God, time on the way to Easter, where we see that nothing happens by chance, what happens in our own lives also responds to the Plan of God who with wisdom leaves us free to act and opt for the best and what happens to us every day, everything is grace.
In this passage of the dry fig tree, the owner of the vineyard was waiting three years for the fruits of the fig tree, considering that it was the adequate and sufficient time for it to bear fruit, now it had to respond to the efforts and dedication of the vinedresser, it had to demonstrate the fruits and growth in the time that was entrusted to it, She had to explain that she had inner life, vitality to infect others, adequate time for her personal development and to enrich the life of the community, time to ruminate and return with generosity all that had been given to her, the hopeful vinedresser trusted to receive the benefits of this care.
God the Father, full of mercy, knows us and knows beforehand that many times we do not act consciously and we let ourselves be carried away repeatedly by what is easier, more comfortable and with less effort we are moving away from what God dreams for each one of us and with much patience he returns to trust, He patiently listens to the entreaties of the vinedresser, he hears his pleas for intercession and commits himself to redouble the care of the fig tree, to the extent that we overcome the differences, that we assume that this person is different from me, this person is my brother and I am capable of experiencing his humanity, his limitations without prejudice, then I am getting closer to God, because I have a look of tenderness like the vinedresser who was capable of pleading, of interceding for a longer time in order to recover the fig tree, this vinedresser who was going to redouble his care, It is the image of God the Father who does not want anyone to be lost, it is the change to which we are invited in this time of conversion, God expects from us these fruits of deep changes in the heart, imitating with generosity this concern and service to others, sharing what we are and what we have, our gifts and talents to make them happier.
