In the passage from the Gospel according to John (4:5–42), Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well and offers her “living water,” a symbol of the spiritual life that forever quenches the thirst of the human heart. This encounter shows how Jesus crosses cultural, social, and gender barriers to bring salvation to everyone without distinction. When the woman recognizes Jesus as the Messiah, she experiences an inner transformation that leads her to share her experience with her community, becoming a witness to the Gospel.
Living water reminds us that faith is not only a personal experience but also a force that transforms relationships and the community. Jesus invites us to reflect: are we willing to let his word quench our inner thirst? And once we are satisfied, can we share this light and hope with others? To be witnesses means committing ourselves to the community, sharing the Good News, and helping others find meaning and hope.
Faith, like water that springs from a deep well, must flow and touch the lives of others, creating bonds of trust, support, and spiritual growth. In this way, the community becomes a place where God’s presence becomes visible, and each person is called to share their own experience of encountering Jesus.
Like the Samaritan woman, each of us is called to bring this living water to the world around us, becoming a source of life and hope for all.
