Alleluia, alleluia, Christ is risen!

Let us sing to God, let us give glory to God, for His Holy Name is praised. We are filled with joy because God shows us His Love by allowing us to share in His inheritance, having faith in His Son Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, who emerges victorious over death.

The texts proposed for our meditation have as their central focus the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. In the first reading, Peter, the spokesperson of the apostles, retraces the successive stages of Christ’s life, culminating in His passion and resurrection. As a witness to all this, Peter invites us, through faith, to have a deep experience of a true encounter with the Risen One, so as to receive from Him the forgiveness of our sins.

Jesus Christ did good wherever He went. Celebrating Easter is therefore a commitment to do good wherever we are. This is the grace of the resurrection—a grace that is passed on from disciple to disciple through the good that every Christian does and will do. The celebration of Easter thus becomes concrete help. It is to this goodness that He calls us all, brothers and sisters, to place ourselves in the school of Christ in order to accomplish good in our communities, our countries, and our world. Let us cultivate goodness and express it in our daily lives without expecting any reward or recognition: this is what it means to be a witness of Christ.

The second reading: dead and risen with Christ—such are believers when they emerge from the baptismal bath. The radical transformation of their condition, still hidden from view, must give a new direction and a new dynamism to their lives.

The Gospel: alerted by Mary Magdalene, Peter and the other disciple run to the tomb. The other disciple arrives first, which is natural since he is younger; however, he does not enter, because Peter holds primacy among the apostles. This quality does not, however, give him a particular insight to understand the signs. The other disciple “saw and believed” immediately. The empty tomb, with each cloth placed in its proper position, tells us that God has glorified His Son by making Him Lord. The resurrection of Christ, the summit of the mystery of faith, inaugurates the era of salvation offered to all humanity.

God our Father opens the doors of eternal life to us by bringing His Son Jesus back to life. Christ is risen, alleluia—the foundation of our faith. The Son of God, our brother, has risen from the dead; death has no power over Him: free and victorious.
