16th Sunday in Ordinary Time – July 19, 2026

The Gospel begins with a life-filled image: a sower who sows good seed. God always begins His work by sowing goodness, with dreams of eternity, of hope in people’s hearts. This Sunday’s parable reminds us that the Word, God’s message, is not something of the past, but a living echo in our present. What Jesus said “yesterday” is the living guide we need to hear today, a mirror of our current reality.

From the very beginning of our Congregation, the sisters have dedicated themselves to a project of LIFE, a vocation, a dream—God’s dream—which, in the charism of Dominic de Guzmán and Fr. Coll, finds inspiration to continue working in the field, seeking to sow the best wheat. Throughout the years and in different realities, this has never ceased. However, at times we experience the pain of the farmer: the painful reality of seeing how some, driven by other interests, threaten to suffocate so many years of effort and dedication. The field in the parable represents our own life, where noble intentions, virtues, and love (the wheat) coexist with fears, selfishness, and wounds (the weeds).

God’s gaze does not first focus on our limitations, but on the potential for life He has placed within us. The master says to the servants when they want to pull out the weeds: “No, lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them.” Here we are called to prudence. There are battles that, if fought with the same weapons of power and violence used by the weeds, will end up destroying your very essence. Although the parable tells us that “an enemy has done this,” it simply reminds us that evil and ambition exist, and when they infiltrate, they cause real harm.

The enemy sows weeds precisely because the field is fertile and the wheat is of high quality. A life given in service does not lose its value because of the presence of weeds. The gift remains pure and sacred, even if at times we suffer injustice. The Owner of the field also suffers.

The master says to the servants: “Gather the wheat into my barn.” How much hope we find in these words! The outcome, which is still to come, does not depend on those who hold power today. Apparent success is fleeting. What is valuable, noble, and self-giving already has a secure and indestructible place in God’s hands.

Amid everything, there is hope: what is authentic, what is given with love and integrity, is kept in the “barn” (in God’s heart). How great is the wisdom of the Master, who decides that the best way to fight the weeds is not by attacking them, but by making the wheat so strong, deep, and mature that the weeds cannot choke it!

Today we are called to prioritize, to care for what survives, to maintain our integrity, and to protect those who truly value the sowing of wheat. We are reminded that the weeds do not define our field. The enemy acts in the shadows, but the good sowing still belongs to us and to God.

Our task is not to confront those who seek themselves, nor to destroy the weeds, but to resist, strengthen our roots, and continue nourishing the good life. The sowing is not yet finished. The fruit of a life given with integrity is eternal and safe in God’s barn. The time of harvest will set everything in its place.

We trust, Lord, that You are the just Judge and that no act of genuine love will be lost. Keep our eyes fixed on the final harvest, with the certainty that the wheat will prevail over the weeds.
