On this Sunday, August 9, the prophet Elijah discovers God’s presence in the gentle breeze. This experience invites us to appreciate stillness so that we may recognize the Lord’s presence where silence embraces everything, where the gentle breeze reminds us that God’s love is warm, tender, and full of mercy. In that silence, it is worthwhile to listen to the voice of the heart and experience the presence of the Beloved.
Together with the psalmist, we raise our prayer and say: “Show us, Lord, your mercy,” so that we may live in peace, justice, and faithfulness. Despite the fear that overwhelms us, the darkness, and the dangers facing humanity, we ask Jesus, just as He did for Peter, to grant us the grace to walk upon the waters with the certainty that He is always by our side.
Today’s challenge is to learn to be silent and remain in that silence in order to discover God’s passing through our lives and to welcome the invitations He gives us to make Him known. In this way, we respond to our Christian identity.
Overcoming fear is possible only when I keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, who loves me and knows me just as I am. He never abandons me; on the contrary, He walks beside me every day of my life. As the Church, we are called to journey in faith and trust, keeping our gaze fixed on Jesus, on His faithfulness, and on His Word.
Our doubts can become an opportunity to seek more deeply the God who loves and is merciful; the God who, even in the midst of trials, sustains us, invites us to place our complete trust in Him, and calls us to live from His love by generously serving others.
