On the occasion of the celebration of the Translation of Saint Dominic de Guzmán, Fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, Master of the Order of Preachers, has addressed a letter to the entire Dominican Family with a profound call for missionary renewal and fidelity to the foundational charism.
The letter, which also serves as part of his relatio for the upcoming General Chapter of Provincial Priors in Krakow, reflects on the current “audiences” of Gospel preaching and urges the Order to evangelize through a fully Dominican way of life, reminding that “preaching is not only what we do, but who we are.”
Fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, has asked the upcoming General Chapter to reflect upon and propose concrete strategies to strengthen the propositum Ordinis — preaching for the salvation of souls — through four fundamental missionary focuses:
-
Missio ad gentes, directed toward those who have not yet come to know Jesus Christ.
-
Mission to deepen the faith of believers rooted in the Church.
-
Mission to the estranged, those who have distanced themselves from the ecclesial community.
-
Mission with young people, accompanying their spiritual search and helping them discover their role in the Church.
According to the Master, these priorities should guide both reflection and concrete action throughout the Order’s provinces and cultural contexts.
