For several years now, the Alberto Masferrer Catholic School has been promoting sports in its different disciplines and categories, and these efforts have begun to bear fruit. Among these achievements are the championships won by the U14 boys’ basketball team, who have represented the institution at national and institutional levels. Coach Judith López, one of the team’s coaches, explains the process that led the young players to become national and Central American champions:
“Our U14 boys’ basketball journey began in December 2025, when we started the tryouts to form our team. It was a wonderful process, as we welcomed around 90 young people who dreamed of becoming part of the team, but only 12 would have the opportunity to stay.
In April 2026, the Development League began, with 16 teams from different institutions nationwide. It was approximately five months of hard work, effort, learning, good moments and difficult moments. All this journey led us to win the title of undefeated champions of the Development League, an achievement that gave us the opportunity to represent El Salvador in the Central American Champions of Champions Championship, which brought together teams from Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico and El Salvador.
During the week of September 7 to 12, we experienced something we will hardly ever forget. We travelled to Guatemala to face the champion teams from different Central American countries and Mexico. The level was very high, and every game was a real challenge, but our young players showed character, unity and a strong desire to represent our country and our institution with dignity.
After achieving very good results against Escuintla from Guatemala, Guatemala Capital and Mexico, we qualified for the semifinal as group leaders. This allowed us to face the Sololá team from Guatemala for a place in the grand final, an objective we achieved through great effort, dedication, sacrifice and the desire to bring the Cup home.
Finally, on Saturday, September 12, we fulfilled a dream: playing in the final of the Central American Champions of Champions Tournament. We faced the Costa Rican team in a very intense game from beginning to end, which required overtime. With a final score of 62–56 in our favor, we were crowned Central American champions and were able to bring the trophy back to El Salvador. More than a championship, this achievement is the result of many months of work, sacrifice and confidence in our young players.
I would especially like to thank the Dominican Sisters of the Annunciation for believing in this project from the very beginning and for all the support they have given us to this day. Thank you for believing in our young players and in our work. I feel very proud to be part of the Masferrer Family and to experience with our young people moments that will remain forever in our history.”

It was not easy to win the championship, but with a lot of effort and by placing everything in God’s hands, we achieved victory. It was beautiful to share this experience with my teammates. Today I feel very grateful to God for giving us this championship. I thank all the people who supported us during the tournament, and I thank the Sisters for all the support they give us. “My experience of participating in the championship was a great joy. Since I was little, I dreamed of playing in leagues like this. Thanks to the effort of every person who helped me from the beginning, I was able to play in Central America. The opponents were not easy, but thanks to the whole team, we were able to win.
