Acts 2:1-11; Psalm 103; 1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13; John 20:19-23<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Pentecost always breaks into the midst of our fears. Today\u2019s Gospel presents the disciples locked away behind closed doors, wounded by absence, confused by sorrow, and paralyzed by uncertainty. And it is precisely there that the Risen Jesus makes Himself present: He does not wait for them to become strong, He does not demand answers, nor does He reproach them for their fragility. He simply enters, stands among them, and gives them what they need most: \u201cPeace be with you.\u201d Then He breathes upon them and gives them His Spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n

How deeply relevant this scene is in our religious life and in our Dominican mission. We too know closed doors: accumulated weariness, searches without immediate answers, wounded communities, uncertainties about the future, inner struggles that sometimes silence us and steal the fervor of preaching from us. And yet, Pentecost reminds us once again that the Holy Spirit does not descend upon a perfect community, but upon a community in need of new life.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Book of Acts describes that moment as a mighty wind and tongues of fire. The Spirit does not arrive in a decorative or superficial way. He comes to shake, to set ablaze, to unsettle, and to send forth. The wind stirs the stagnant air; the fire illuminates and consumes what no longer gives life. Pentecost is not a pious memory: it is a living force that continues to push the Church outward, toward the human peripheries, toward hearts thirsty for hope.<\/span><\/p>\n

And perhaps today, as daughters of Saint Dominic de Guzm\u00e1n and Saint Francis Coll, we are called to ask ourselves sincerely: what needs to be set ablaze once again by the Spirit within us? What part of our vocation has grown accustomed and complacent? What spaces need once more to be inhabited by the passion of the Gospel?<\/span><\/p>\n

It is no coincidence that, as the Dominican Family, we also commemorate the translation of our Father Saint Dominic precisely during Pentecost. Dominic was a man wholly inhabited by the Spirit. He did not preach from comfort or empty theory; he preached from a heart consumed by compassion and truth. His nightly tears, his closeness to the poor, his passionate love for the Word, and his tireless desire for the salvation of all were born from a profound experience of the Spirit of God.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tradition says that Dominic \u201cspoke either with God or about God.\u201d And this synthesis contains the very heart of Pentecost: whoever allows themselves to be filled with the Spirit cannot remain closed within themselves. The Spirit always sends us forth, to communicate, to proclaim, and to create communion. That is why Saint Paul reminds us today that \u201cthere are different gifts, but the same Spirit.\u201d No one possesses the Spirit for themselves alone. Every gift received carries the flavor of mission and service.<\/span><\/p>\n

In our spirituality of the Anunciata, Pentecost has a particularly beautiful echo. Mary, the woman of the Annunciation and of listening, was there, in the midst of the believing community, awaiting the fulfillment of the promise. She does not occupy the center, yet she sustains the waiting; she makes no noise, yet remains faithful; she does not seek prominence, yet accompanies the birth of the Church. How much we need today to learn once again this Marian way of living the mission! To remain available to the Spirit, open to His surprises, capable of sustaining hope even when times seem dark.<\/span><\/p>\n

Perhaps the greatest danger for our consecrated life is not weariness, but becoming accustomed to living without inner fire. A community may continue functioning outwardly and yet have lost its passion. Pentecost comes precisely to awaken us from all spiritual lukewarmness. The Holy Spirit does not want us to be survivors of a past mission, but women profoundly alive, capable of proclaiming with joy that Christ remains risen in the midst of the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today the Lord breathes upon us once again. Once again, He entrusts His mission to our fragile hands. Once again, He sends us to preach, to educate, to accompany, to listen, to heal wounds, to sow hope wherever life seems to fade away. And perhaps the greatest miracle of Pentecost is not speaking different languages, but learning once again the language of love, closeness, fraternity, and compassion.<\/span><\/p>\n

May Saint Dominic de Guzm\u00e1n teach us to burn for the truth without losing tenderness. And may the Holy Spirit make each one of us a living word of the Gospel, capable of proclaiming, like Mary, that God continues to make all things new.<\/span><\/p>\n
