By submitting to John\u2019s rite, Jesus renounces the logic of domination and arrogance, choosing to stand in line with the excluded and sinners. This action is not mere formalism, but a radical commitment to social transformation from below, where God\u2019s justice is manifested in closeness and solidarity with the most vulnerable. The open heaven symbolizes the end of the separation between the sacred and the profane, proclaiming that grace is now within reach of those who struggle for a more humane world. The voice of the Father, in calling Jesus his beloved Son, not only affirms his divine identity but also proposes a new model of sonship based on self-giving and service. Liberation theologians present baptism as the sacrament of shared responsibility, where being sons and daughters of God necessarily implies being brothers and sisters of the oppressed, actively working to dismantle the walls of inequality and injustice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That is why:\u00a0 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe water of the Jordan does not seek the purity of the temple, but the cool embrace of the weathered skin of the worker and the excluded.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe heaven is torn open like a wound of light, allowing the whisper of the Father to become the thunder that awakens the hope of sleeping peoples.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe dove descends not as a passing bird, but as the breath that pushes the ships of justice toward a shore of radical fraternity.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the transformation of the world, we are called to live our own baptism as a renunciation of the arrogance of power, immersing ourselves in the struggles of our time in order to sow seeds of dignity in every corner of our common home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applied to daily life, we can say that baptism breaks the distance between heaven and earth, between the human and the divine. We must break today\u2019s barriers. Being constantly connected through phones and social networks has paradoxically distanced us. Remembering the power and effectiveness of our baptism invites us to break distances with others: with those with whom we have had conflicts, with those we barely see, with those who have hurt us. Forgiveness sets us free, as Jesus taught us in this humble act of allowing himself to be baptized by John. Carrying resentment chains us and prevents us from experiencing the beauty that baptism reveals\u2014breaking chains and stigmas. The first step is to break distances within ourselves, to make room for an encounter with the other, with our neighbor, our brother, our sister.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Second is indifference and the need to overcome it. When we break inner isolation, we discover that we are not alone and that, by opening ourselves to others, life can surprise us in many ways. Suffering often becomes heavier because we remain closed in on ourselves. By trusting another\u2014who reflects Jesus, close, loving, and attentive\u2014we experience a presence that listens and accompanies. That person also carries their own struggles, but by sharing life offers an embrace that heals. Thus, loneliness and distance are broken, because we allow ourselves to be found in the one who suffers yet continues to love.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Third is shared responsibility\u2014feeling that we are brothers and sisters to one another. This helps us realize that some things are in God\u2019s hands, while others are in ours. Achieving this balance between God and ourselves\u2014He doing his part, we doing ours\u2014creates a harmony that allows us to move forward in life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, baptism makes us children of God. And if it makes us children, then there is a relationship, a union with God that nothing and no one can take away. Part of our mission is to carry this good news to everyone: that we are God\u2019s children, that we matter to Him. He is always by our side. He does not ask us to be perfect, only human\u2014walking and striving to be better Christians each day. Let no one and nothing make you doubt the gifts God gave you and affirmed in your baptism.
