{"id":67342,"date":"2025-11-09T00:05:28","date_gmt":"2025-11-08T23:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dominicasanunciata.org\/?p=67342"},"modified":"2025-11-09T00:13:41","modified_gmt":"2025-11-08T23:13:41","slug":"feast-of-the-dedication-of-the-basilica-of-saint-john-lateran-november-9-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dominicasanunciata.org\/en\/feast-of-the-dedication-of-the-basilica-of-saint-john-lateran-november-9-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"FEAST OF THE DEDICATION OF THE BASILICA OF SAINT JOHN LATERAN (November 9, 2025)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The celebration of the dedication of the Basilica of Saint John Lateran reminds us of God\u2019s goodness and of the promise fulfilled by Jesus to Peter when He said: \u201cYou are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the power of hell shall not prevail against it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since Christianity was accepted by the Roman Empire in the 4th century, the Basilica of Saint John Lateran has become the symbol of Catholicism. It is the official seat of the Bishop of Rome, where the chair of the successor of Peter is found. Recognized as the Pope\u2019s cathedral, it receives the title \u201cMother and Head of all the Churches of the City and of the World.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first reading describes the ideal of a temple: a meeting point between the river and the sea, a place where earth and heaven come together. This understanding helps us grasp Jesus\u2019 action in driving out the merchants. The temple, meant to be a fertile place of goodness and holiness, had become a space of deceit and sin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temple priests question Jesus about the authority by which He acts, and He responds by inviting them to destroy the temple, for He will raise it up: \u201cHe was speaking of the temple of His body.\u201d With the Paschal mystery \u2013 His body destroyed and risen \u2013 a new form of worship begins. At the same time, we are reminded that today each one of us, in the Risen Christ, is a \u201ctemple of God,\u201d because the Spirit dwells within us (1 Cor 3:16).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyond the literal-historical meaning of the text, there is a theological meaning: the place of God\u2019s presence becomes the assembly of Christians; a building made of people, of \u201cliving stones.\u201d All of us were consecrated as \u201ctemple of God\u201d on the day of our baptism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This feast should awaken in the faithful the gift of communion with the Pope and the assurance of knowing which is the true temple of God. <\/span><b>Christ is the true place <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">where God has drawn near, where He became man.
